David Jr.
The conversation that would help shape BeeSeatedHere did not announce itself as significant. It arrived quietly, in the form of a routine exchange—a purchased plate, a scheduled pickup, a brief moment between a chef and a customer.
But David Jr. was not interested in the food.
He wanted to understand the vision.
“Where are you trying to take Bee Seated?” he asked.
At the time, there was no clear answer. I was operating out of a friend's kitchen, guided by passion but still figuring out what BeeSeatedHere could fully become.
David Jr. listened more than he spoke. Then, without fanfare, he offered something more valuable than advice: access to a commercial kitchen.
It was a simple gesture with lasting impact. For the first time, the vision felt tangible. What had been a growing idea began to take shape as a real business.
But what he offered did not stop there.
From that day forward, he took me under his wing—inviting me to shadow him at events and learn what it means to operate with excellence, including a CMA event he hosted for his clients. In those rooms, I wasn't just observing logistics; I was witnessing the level of intention, professionalism, and care required to build something that lasts.
And even beyond those moments, his presence has remained consistent.
He calls to check in.
He reminds me to keep BeeSeatedHere at the forefront.
He reinforces that this is not just something I started—it is something worth holding onto and growing with purpose.
That kind of support is rare. It is not loud or performative. It is steady, intentional, and rooted in a genuine desire to see someone follow through on their vision.
A Legacy of Hospitality
For David Jr., investing in others is not accidental—it is inherited.
Raised in a family rooted in hospitality, he learned from Granddaddy Swett and his father, David Swett Sr., what it means to serve with consistency, care, and pride. Their work was about more than food. It was about building something that could sustain both community and legacy.
Our family has been in the restaurant business since 1954—seventy years of serving our community. But at the center of it all were Walter and Susie Swett, the real power couple, the ones who built something out of nothing and made sure it could outlast them.
I have been fortunate to be part of that legacy. And those values show up in the way David Jr. moves today—creating opportunities, opening doors, and recognizing potential early.
The Power of Being Seen
Though we are family—he is my mother's first cousin—what he gave me extended far beyond that connection.
He offered access.
He offered perspective.
He offered belief.
And he continues to offer consistency.
That belief changed how I saw myself. BeeSeatedHere was no longer just something I was doing—it became something I was building and protecting.
A Testimony of His Own
But there is another side to David Jr.'s story—one he lived through, not just one he offered to me.
He has been in the trenches.
He has reinvented himself more than once.
He has tackled life's transitions head-on, the kind that don't come with instructions—providing for himself and his children while rebuilding, again and again, from the ground up.
And through it all, he learned something most people spend a lifetime trying to understand: his joy was his responsibility. Not his circumstances'. Not anyone else's.
So he found a way.
One step.
One decision to not be defeated.
One win at a time.
That is how he accomplished his hopes and dreams—not in a single leap, but in the accumulation of choosing himself, choosing forward, again and again.
What Endures
Not every turning point looks like a milestone. Sometimes it looks like a question asked at the right time—and a person who stays committed long after the moment has passed.
That conversation became part of my foundation.
But his continued presence became part of my discipline.
Because BeeSeatedHere didn't begin only with a meal.
It also continues through the people who remind you why you started.
And that is a story worth serving.
